SLEEP RESEARCH

research topleftAs a partner with NeuroTrials Research Inc., The Atlanta Sleep Medicine Clinic not only provides the latest in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep problems, but also works to discover new medications and treatments through clinical research.

Since 1997, our research has contributed to the approval of medications and treatments for insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, Alzheimer's, and many other disorders.

Participate in a Research Study
We are always looking for people who can help us with current and future studies. If you qualify to participate in one of our research studies, certain medical services, such as physical exams, ECGs, and lab work may be provided at no charge to you. In addition, you may be compensated for your time and travel.

Participants are carefully selected for each research study based upon the specific requirements provided by the pharmaceutical company or research organization funding the study. Criteria may be related to:

  • age
  • gender
  • medical history
  • other clinically relevant factors

If you are selected, the clinical trial may require that you:

  • have a study-related medical exam
  • undergo medical testing
  • use investigational drugs

Once you decide you may want to participate in one of our trials you will be given a consent form that gives detailed information about the individual clinical trial. This information ensures that you are fully informed of participation requirements before deciding to participate. Your personal medical information will be handled confidentially.

DO YOU SUFFER FROM SEIZURES?
If so you may be eligible to participate in a clinical study of an investigational combination of two approved drugs for individuals with Partial Onset Seizures.

Qualified participants must:

  • Be 16 years or older
  • Be diagnosed with Partial Onset Seizures for at least 3 months
  • Be in overall good health

DO YOU SUFFER WITH NARCOLEPSY?

  • Have you been diagnosed with Narcolepsy?
  • Are you 18 to 55 years old?

If so, you may qualify to participate in a research study being conducted at a local research company. Participation requires a total of 10 visits, some to the Clinic and some overnight stays at our sleep lab. LIVING WITH COPD..JOIN OUR RESEARCH STUDY!
If you are a current or previous smoker and have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), we may have an option for you. We are conducting a research study to determine the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug.

Qualified participants must:

  • Be 40+ years old
  • Be diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Be able to use dry powder inhaler

DIABETIC NEUROPATHY STUDY
Are you or someone you love diagnosed with Diabetic Mellitus / Neuropathy? Have you been taking medication for pain but aren't satisfied with the results?

Qualified participants must:

  • Be 18 years old and up.
  • Be diagnosed with Diabetic Neuropathy.
  • Be unsatisfied with their pain management.
  • Unable to swallow Pills.
  • Had cancer in the past 2 years.

DO YOU TAKE ASPIRIN TO PREVENT ANOTHER CARDIAC EVENT?
Do you take aspirin to prevent another cardiac event? If so you may qualify to participate in a study.

You may qualify to participate in a clinical research study, if you:

  • Are less than 60 years old with a history of gastric ulcers.
  • Are 60+ years old with no history of gastric ulcers.
  • Take aspirin to prevent another cardiac event.

SHIFT WORKER STUDY
If you are between the ages of 18-65, work the 3rd shift and feel sleepy during the last half of your shift you may qualify to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational drug for shift-worker disorder.

Participants must:

  • Be in good general health
  • Work the third shift.
  • Experience sleepiness during the last half of your shift.
  • Plan on working you shift for at least two months.

HAVE YOU SUFFERED A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY?
Have you or someone you love had a head injury and now suffer from excessive sleepiness as a result? We are doing a study to examine the safety and efficacy of an investigational medicine for those who suffer with this condition.

You may qualify for this study if:

  • You are between the ages of 18 and 65 years old.
  • You have had excessive sleepiness since having a head injury.
  • Have had a closed mild to moderate head injury which occurred 1-10 years ago.

RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME
Jerking. Twitching. Fidgeting. That's how your legs may feel if you have Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)-a condition that makes your legs very uncomfortable when sitting or lying the condition can interfere with both sleep and daily activities; this research study is for evaluating a medication for Restless legs Syndrome.

Qualified participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Experiencing RLS symptoms
  • Have trouble sleeping due to RLS

SLEEP MAINTENANCE INSOMNIA
If you have no problems getting to sleep, but awake multiple times during the night, you might have sleep maintenance insomnia the condition can interfere with both your sleep and daily activities; this research study is evaluating a medication for Sleep Maintenance Insomnia.

Qualified participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Not having trouble falling asleep, but wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep.
  • Feel a decreased ability in daytime functioning.

ARE YOU LIVING WITH JOINT PAIN CAUSED BY ARTHRITIS?
If you are one of the many people who experience joint pain caused by arthritis, you may be interested in participating in this study. Our practice is currently seeking individuals for a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug to see if it can provide relief from pain caused by arthritis.

You may qualify if you:

  • Are 18 years or older.
  • Have joint pain caused by arthritis.
  • Are otherwise in good general health.
